   Pierre Zufferey
After « Nuit Blanche », exhibited in Sao Paolo and « Tandem » at the Pierre Gianadda Foundation, « l’Ecume des Jours » and « Migrations » at the Art Gallery Junod, « Ondée » at the Lux Art Gallery of Trieste and “Air Ether” at the Museo de la Mascara in Mexico, Pierre Zufferey is coming back from far away with “Distant Horizons”.

This work inscribes itself all together in the continuity and the rupture. The essential elements are the light, the strength of the water movements and the vaporous contrasts of the air.

Like geological layers, the canvas sometimes show ethereal and cloudy spaces, sparkling with a blond sandy coloured light, opening far distant areas where the starling or the swallow fly, or even further in the distance, in areas where the intact canvas turns into burning desert colours.

The “Distant Horizons” of Pierre Zufferey also vibrate under the fresh showery weather, saturating the atmosphere with light droplets., sometimes anticipating the sunny-, sometimes the stormy weather, upon the very moment of the painting.
The steps proposed by the paintings of the artist are plunging us into various universes, stretching into water, airy or desert regions.
The eye is captivated by the shimmering water, the celestial movements, the ephemeral changing of the clouds, the poetry of the instant, but also immediately by the strength, the black brush strokes, asserted with impetus, like earth slashes, contrasting with the delicate shades of the transparent water, shimmering the openings of the sky.

It is the rich run of the artist that blows him the wide areas, his conquests, his trips in search of unknown territories. This thirst of discovery is leading him towards unexplored elsewhere, but at the same time remaining strongly bounded to his earth and his self.
And if sometimes the thunder appears between the rays of light, stretching in thick black strokes on the simmering waters, it is the opening on infinite territories that draws the imaginary, towards airy particles impregnated with beauty, but also towards countries confronted to the flows and precariousness of life, a duality raising up enchantment and questioning.

Originating from the Valais (Switzerland), Pierre Zufferey lives and works in Sierre. After studies of architecture, he decides to dedicate himself to the arts : painting, prints, photography and music, pursuing nevertheless some architectural projects.Over a hundred of exhibitions in Switzerland and abroad mark out his artistic adventure, namely in 2011 at the MuBE Museum of Sao Paolo with his friend and sculptor André Raboud, in 2012 at the Pierre Gianadda Foundation, in 2016 at the Museo de la Mascara and at the Museo Fundaciòn Fertilizando à Mexico City and in 2017 at the Museo d’Arte Moderna « Ugo Carà » de Trieste.
